National PIT Careers Month Connects Students & Employers

PIT Careers Month

Thousands of Students and Employers to connect at Career Fairs

To meet growing demand for technologies that serve the public interest, nine leading universities and colleges are hosting Public Interest Technology (PIT) Career Fairs in fall, 2023 as part of the inaugural PIT Careers Month, funded by the PIT University Network (PIT-UN).

PIT Careers Month 2023 is expected to attract thousands of students and a diverse employer pool, from local government to nonprofits to the private sector, across all four regions of the U.S., a critical step towards building career pipeline infrastructure for the fast-growing field of PIT.

Public interest technology career fairs 2023

Career Services departments from PIT-UN’s 63 member institutions were awarded funds in Spring, 2023 for their outstanding applications to a special request for proposal for career fairs that would connect students to internships, apprenticeships, job shadows and other experiential learning opportunities with clearly defined objectives. This RFP is a new addition to PIT-UN’s grantmaking, which has become a standard-bearer in the field through its annual Network Challenge.

The month-long career pipeline initiative features a mixture of PIT-UN Hubs and PIT Halls at existing career fairs on campus; dedicated one-day PIT fairs and conferences; a regional career fair for institutions in the South;; and an early-stage career exploration and preparation event  for first- and second-year undergraduates.

In addition to connecting students directly with employers that are hiring for jobs, internships, and volunteer positions, several career fairs will provide learning opportunities, such as student workshops, PIT-focused panels and speakers, interview preparation, and hackathon training
