Hi, everyone, it was awesome seeing you in person at the 2023 PIT-UN Annual Convening at Boston University in October. You can review the panel discussions, keynotes, and photos on PITcases.org

Outcomes from the 2023 Annual Convening Working Group Sessions

The working group meetings were well attended and many had ideas for activities to undertake in 2024. We will be continuing the tradition of our thematic/issue area working groups. If you have an idea for a new working group, please reach out to me at perea@newamerica.org.

  • PIT @ NSF Working Group staffed by Alberto Rodriguez-Alvarez with a lead TBD
  • PIT and AI Policy Working Group with co-leads: Margaret Hu (William & Mary)

2024 Regional Hubs

A number of our members were inspired by Francine Berman’s presentation on PIT-New England (PIT-NE) and have proposed other regional hubs to develop in 2024. A regional hub broadens and strengthens PIT programming and workforce development through place based activities that maximize the strengths and gifts of each region. Based on member interests, PIT-UN is launching the following four regional hubs under the guidance of a Regional Hub Fellow:

    • Midwest Region with fellows: Lisa Frazier (Ohio State University)
    • PIT-NE Region with fellow: Colette Basiliere (University of Massachusetts Amherst)
    • HBCUs South with fellows: Kevin Harris (Stillman College) and Zina Parker (LeMoyne-Owen College)
  • Global Region with fellow: Brian Gran (Case Western Reserve University)

If you are interested in joining one of these regional hubs, please sign up here. If you are interested in starting a hub in the future, please let me know. In the meantime, consider joining one of the new hubs to learn more about their process as well as to iterate on this exciting new phase of PIT-UN’s growth.

Stay safe and healthy,

Brenda Mora Perea
