Community Cybersecurity Clinics

The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics is a forum for students, trainers, practitioners, and advocates to information and encourage other institutions to develop their own cybersecurity clnics.

The Consortium is made up of universities across the United States, including PIT-UN institutions UC Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Indiana University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Stillman College, Temple University, Columbia University, and UT Austin.

The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics identifies and shares resources ranging from video case studies and teaching syllabi to client assessments and other tools. With resources from the private sector, academia, and civil society, the Consortium offers a diverse approach to cybersecurity education.

The Consortium’s Clinic Development Toolkit provides an introductory look at the 6 stages in clinic development, and helps guide future practitioners through the following:

  1. Establishing a solid cybersecurity foundation
  2. Designing a clinic
  3. Identifying, creating, and sustaining funding
  4. Reducing risks for institutions and clients
  5. Developing a curriculum
  6. Hosting test-runs and implementing improvements

The University of California, Berkeley’s Citizen Clinic is a public interest cybersecurity clinic with a focus on defending politically vulnerable organizations in the online world. The Clinic’s resources include:

  • Curricula, syllabi, reading lists, and case studies
  • Technological primers and policies on virtual identities, VPNs, and phishing simulators
  • A baseline organizational security guide
  • Modules on cybersecurity best practices
